Pakistan Opposition Leader Bhutto Killed. Said opposition leader was a woman; and she was recently under house arrest.
I like was Lis had to say in her entry about this…
(BTW, it always amazes me the number of countries that have had a woman in one of the highest positions in the land, like England or Pakistan or India or Israel, all of which have had female prime ministers, and Germany, which has had a female chancellor…and the US is still wetting itself over Nancy Pelosi becoming Speaker of the House and Hillary running for president. When male candidates or other political beasts say they wouldn’t know how to deal with a woman as president, I have to question THEIR fitness for politics, because they’ll have to deal with women in high positions OUTSIDE the US.)
After being wrongfully accused, convicted, and imprisoned for over a year for the murder of his ex-girlfriend in Nicaragua, Eric Volz is a free man, and is back in the US.
YES! This is amazing news for him and his family.
May they have the best Christmas they’ve had in a long time.
H. Res. 847: Recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith
It passed in the House.
Now, why this bill? Aren’t there more important bills sitting around that could’ve been debated/discussed? What about overriding the veto on childrens health care? I’d think that’d be more important than this.
Also, there is a glaring error in the bill itself (emphasis mine)…
Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its roots in Christianity;
The US has only minute roots in Christianity, if that. Most of the founders were Deists, not Christians — they believed in a higher power; but rejected Christ’s divinity. Thomas Jefferson even went so far as to write his own Bible; and he informed the Danbury Baptists in his 1803 letter to them that the First Amendment was created to create “a wall of separation between church and state”. In the introduction to Thomas Paine’s Age of Reason, he stated that while he did believe “in one God, and no more”, he also rejected all the teachings of various religions and denominations. Article 10 of the Treaty of Tripoli, ratified in 1790 and printed in the major newspapers of the day, stated that the US was not founded on Christianity or any other religion. The founders believed that mixing religion and government would be disasterous.
Personally, I’d go so far as to say that the passage of this bill comes very close to Congress establishing a state religion — which goes against the First Amendment.
Why?
Zip files for five of my old wallpapers — “Abstract Untitled”, “Chaos Theory”, “Cherry Explosion”, “Dreamweaver”, and “Perfect Peace” — have been updated with widescreen versions (1280×800 to 1920×1200).
I’ve also added a new art piece and updated the links section a wee bit. :)
