The Leafs fire Pat Quinn.
My reaction to this was simple: “Ouch.” The sentiment amongst Leafs fans online, and even some of the players, is that Quinn was a good guy and a great coach. At the same time, though, some are also saying the team could use a fresh start with a new coach. Even others are saying GM John Ferguson, Jr., should’ve been booted either as well as Quinn or instead of him. The only way any of us Leafs fans will know if this was good or bad is when we find out who’ll be replacing Quinn, and seeing how everything goes next season–which, coincidentally, will be the 40th anniversary of the Leaf’s last Stanley Cup win.
Apparently, there’s also a Tie Domi connection. If it’s true that Domi had a hand in Quinn’s firing… that’s not a good thing. And they ought to tell him to pack his bags and get the blank out. Gah.
I hope if he gets another coaching job (I’ve been seeing Pittsburgh come up in this regard), he’ll do his new “home” proud, maybe even hoist the Cup.
In semi-related news, with the Leafs out of it, at least I don’t have to hear my dad ask me, “Where’s Eddie (Belfour)?” whenever someone else is playing goal in a game. At least not until next season. ;) As for who I’m rooting for: Originally it was going to be all Avs, but I may root for San Jose. If the Sharks go all the way, it’d be a nice thing to throw in Boston’s face. ;) As for the Eastern Conference, as long as it’s neither Ottawa nor Montreal, I’ll be a happy Shelly. :)
Do you honestly think I’d root for my favourite team’s biggest rivals in the playoffs? Come on!
CBC Sports: Leafs knocked out of playoffs
Which–for me and every other Leaf fan out there–begs the question: Who do we root for now?
Sigh. Now we’ve gotta wait till next season.
‘L’etat, C’est Moi’: Bush Declares Himself Above the Law — Has the First American Dictatorship Already Arrived?
I especially like this…
It is more evident than ever that this President and Vice President need to be impeached. Not because it is or isn’t politically expedient; not even because their successors might be any better, or because it will be an advantage for one or another party in 2008. But because this sort of behavior in the most powerful job in the world must be punished, in the clearest possible manner. Justice demands it. Setting an example, to try to prevent similar abuses by future leaders from any party, demands it.
Looks like they want to nuke Iran now.
Check out the comment by the expert/Bush fan, about how because they’re an Islamic republic, of course they’re going to work on developing weapons. Right, and other religious–or even secular–republics aren’t? Hello? The country with the second largest weapons cache (the US has the most) is Israel…which consists of mostly Jewish people!
I’m just sayin’.
New Court Filing: Libby Got OK from Bush to Leak to Miller
And this regarding a guy who doesn’t like media leaks? Oh, I get it. It’s only alright if it benefits the fella!
Former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby testified to a grand jury that he gave information from a National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq to New York Times reporter Judith Miller in 2003 with the specific permission of President Bush, according to a new court filing from the special prosecutor in the case.
Gotta love a country where one president lies about whether or not he gave an intern a blow job and get impeached virtually on the spot; but another one lies about whether or not a country has WMD and sends thousands of soldiers and civilians to their deaths and gets away with it!
This is all the more reason why–IMO–this country ought to get rid of the Republican majority in the Senate and House: to get some accountability back into play.
