Informed Comment’s analysis on the election

And tomorrow Wednesday night is SOTU! No, I won’t be watching. But I’ll be reading it once the text is online. Then I won’t have to worry about all the applause and cheering and stuff. There will be some debunking, to be sure. ;)

from the land of bad taste

In honour of the return of Real Time on February 18…

New Rule: If you’re going to attend a solemn event, leave the military-style winter coats at home! At the Auschwitz ceremony, VP Dick Cheney wore a green winter jacket and a casual hat, while all the other world leaders and diplomats were dressed in black winter coats. The fashion editor at the Washington Post called him on it. My dad had that exact style coat while he was in the military. After his retirement back in the early 1990s, he continued to wear it outside when blowing snow.

Really, though. As the second-in-command of the world’s sole superpower, and representing the country at such a solemn event, Dick Cheney should know better than to visit the Land of Bad Taste.

By the way, Lynne Cheney’s coat wasn’t much better, either, in my view.

another big “ouch”

36 US soldiers were killed today–31 in a helicopter crash.

In just-as-sucky-if-not-even-suckier news, two young Iraqi children watch their parents get murdered.

ouch

From supporter of his country’s occupation by the US, to a foe after US soldiers raided his house.

In other news, various members of the Bush administration–including Bush himself and singer Britney Spears–are up for Razzies this year in regards to their “performances” (I use the term loosely, hence the quotation marks) in Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. (Story here)

the return!

Well, the site’s back after being in oblivion for a month. So what happened?

Pinchpenny closed after a failed merger attempt with Netrillium. I decided to move there; I took up their reseller special so I would have more space. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t all peachy-keen. I had to have the whois changed so I could transfer the name to another registrar (it originally had PP’s info). Then I had to wait for the transfer to go through. After that, I had to change the nameserver’s from PP’s to NT’s. Finally, of course, I had to reupload everything and get Movable Type back up and running. Anyway. It’s all water under the bridge now. dL-net is back.

On the upside, there’s some new artwork up (the art section has been redone, too), as well as some new photos. So…you know. Look around! :)
