Even his fellow Repubs want him out!
And with idiotic statements like this after what happened with Terri Schiavo…
“The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior,” DeLay said, raising the prospect of impeaching members of a separate and independent branch of government. Later, he complained of “an arrogant and out of control judiciary that thumbs its nose at Congress and the president.”
Errr, newsflash! Virtually every single judge that heard the case was batting for YOUR side! Yeah. Fellow Republicans! I mean, really. Not to mention there’s this whole “separation of powers” thing.
Shouldn’t there be some sort of “three strikes” rule for House and Senate Leaders? Y’know, “three ethics violations and you’re out!”?
Fire the fella.
Now, some of you who read this may remember I wasn’t like this with Carolyn Parrish, the infamous Canadian MP with hits like…
“Damn Americans. I hate the bastards.”
And that one about not forming a “coalition of the idiots” but a “coalition of the wise”, plus the one about Canadian PM Paul Martin that eventually lost her her “Liberal” label and turned her into an Independent. (Can’t remember the comment off-hand.) Plus there was her stint on This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
Well, it’s pretty obvious to virtually anyone who’s read this over the last few years that my leanings are left-of-centre. I freely admit that I agreed with a lot of what she said, not to mention I think her being kicked out of the Liberal party came at an all-too-convenient time (she was kicked out ten days before GWB made his first visit to Canada…ever). However, that’s not why I was so lenient with her remarks.
Carolyn Parrish was not in a position of power. She wasn’t a Cabinet minister, or a Senator, or anything like that. She was just a regular old Liberal MP whose comments ended up being caught by a microphone, at a time when US/Canada relations were not necessarily on good terms. And personally, I doubt we would’ve seen ex-PM Jean Chretien calling for her head were he still in power.
Tom DeLay, on the other hand, is in a position of power as House Majority Leader. Yes, there are those above him (and even GWB and co are distancing themselves from DeLay’s comments); but he’s still in an influential position.
It would’ve been one thing if some obscure Republican congress(wo)man made remarks a la DeLay. The fellow Repubs probably would’ve just shrugged it off. But since it’s DeLay…cat fight!
Lastly, yes, if DeLay were a Democrat, I’d still be making this post. *nod* (I said I was left-of-centre. That doesn’t mean I’m a Democrat. I’m not aligned with any party.)
