Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin dead at 44. Apparently, he was filming a documentary in Australia, when a stingray got him near his heart–which is what did him in. Not a pleasant way to go, and probably not the way I’d dare say a lot of us thought he might’ve gone; but it sucks all the same.
Personally, I found him kinda cooky, maybe even a little crazy sometimes (crocodiles? reptiles? whuh?); but he was passionate about animals for sure. I hope that lives on somehow. May he rest in peace. :(

Meanwhile, tennis player Andre Agassi played his last match yesterday, going down three-sets-to-one against Benjamin Becker (I don’t think he’s related to Boris). After the matched ended, Agassi received an eight-minute-long standing ovation. (Fellow tennis players pay tribute.) He was one of my favourite players growing up. I think it was watching him win his first US Open in 1994–being the first unseeded player to do so–that got me even remotely excited about tennis at that time.
The scoreboard shows that I lost today, but what it doesn’t show is what I found. Over the last 20 years I have found loyalty, you have pulled me through on court and also in life. I have found inspiration - you have willed me to succeed - and I have found generosity. I thank you and I will take you and the memory with me for the rest of my life.
~ Andre’s farewell speech
On a happier note, earlier tonight, CFL quarterback Damon Allen passed Warren Moon’s all-time passing record…for all of professional football. The new record is 70,556 yards.
And, in the end, Allen’s Toronto Argonauts crushed the Hamilton Ti-Cats by a score of 40-6. Dayum!
