church + abortion + 11-year-old = WHUH?

A Vatican official has said the Catholic church will excommunicate a medical team who performed Colombia’s first legal abortion on an 11-year-old girl, who was eight weeks pregnant after being raped by her stepfather.

(Emphasis mine.)

So the Catholic church is, pretty much, saying it’s alright for an eleven-year-old girl to get knocked up by her stepfather against her will and condemns the doctors who probably saved her life by terminating the pregnancy. What the…?

Oh my goodness.. My heart aches for the little girl..

I’ll never understand why anyone feels like a woman (or child, depending on the situation.. like this) should be forced to carry a child like that. Really disappoints me immensely.

This is yet another example why I can’t bring myself to go back to organized religion. *sigh*.. Poor kid. It’s like “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” :/

Polaroid shutting 2 Mass. facilities, laying off 150 workers. Even worse? Their other two plants — one in Mexico, and one in the Netherlands (which produces 600 and Spectra film, as well as SX-70 Blend for Unsaleable) — will shut down later this year.
