CBC axes Street Cents

CBC News: CBC axes Street Cents

Although this show was/is geared mainly toward teenagers, I watched this show pretty much from its debut in 1989/1990 until circa 2001/02. It had some excellent information over the years, and not only did it help teens become smart consumers, but it also delved into various serious issues at times. At the time I thought it was very informative.

CBC cites dwindling ratings for its demise after seventeen years. Well, IMO, it didn’t help that CBC moved it some time ago from Mondays at 5:30 pm local time (7 pm in Newfoundland–a slot it owned for most of the 1990s and a little into this century) to Sunday afternoons when virtually no one is watching anyway, not to mention it seemed to me like promotion for it has been virtually non-existent for a while now. You would think CBC would take the hint.

Sigh. At the same time, though, it has been on seventeen years, and that’s a damned good run. Thumbs up to everyone who’s ever worked on that show, either in front of or behind the camera, and–of course–Moui (sp?) the Pig and Two-Bit the Hamster. ;)
